Milir is currently sustained by volunteers who contribute their time, skills, and care to our shared mission. To foster a safe, inclusive, and justice-oriented environment, we ask all volunteers to follow these guidelines:
* As Milir is a volunteer-powered organisation, we kindly request a minimum commitment of 3 months. This helps us ensure continuity, build meaningful relationships, and sustain our community initiatives.
* Uphold Milir’s values of anti-caste practice, dignity, equity, inclusion, and collective care.
* Treat all community members with respect and maintain confidentiality.
* Communicate openly and inform your coordinator if you are unavailable or need to step back.
* Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed timelines.
* Participate in orientation and relevant training sessions.
* Be open to learning, feedback, and collaborative work.
* Refrain from discrimination, harassment, or any form of oppressive behaviour.
* Represent Milir responsibly in all online and offline spaces.

Milir currently operates as a volunteer-led organisation without paid staff. A minimum 3-month commitment helps us maintain continuity, distribute responsibilities fairly, and build meaningful relationships within our community. It also allows volunteers enough time to understand our values, contribute effectively, and grow alongside the organisation.
Yes. We have online opportunities in graphic design, communications, social media, administration, research, and documentation.
Yes. Regional volunteers can support community events, awareness campaigns, outreach, and local initiatives in Chennai ,Tirunelveli and Tenkasi.
No. While some roles may require specific skills, many opportunities are open to individuals who are willing to learn and contribute.
1.How many hours do I need to volunteer?
The expected time commitment varies by role and will be discussed during onboarding.
2.Will I receive training?
Yes. Volunteers receive an orientation to Milir’s values, policies, and role-specific guidance where applicable.
3. Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Volunteers who successfully complete their agreed commitment and responsibilities are eligible to receive a certificate of appreciation.
4. Is volunteering paid?
No. Volunteering is an unpaid opportunity to contribute your time and skills toward community-led social change.
5. How are volunteers selected?
After submitting the Volunteer Interest Form, shortlisted applicants may be contacted for a brief conversation to understand their interests, skills, and availability before being matched with a suitable role.
6. Can I choose the type of work I want to do?
Yes. We will do our best to match your interests, skills, and availability with suitable volunteer opportunities while considering the organisation’s needs.
7. Can I stop volunteering if my circumstances change?
Yes. We understand that life circumstances change. We ask that you inform your coordinator as early as possible so we can ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
